For many years now, I've said that governments would never act on Climate Change until it hit them in their pockets. A smile came to my face when I read this [link] and here's looking to 2050 [link]

Already, the Common Man/Woman is feeling the pinch, what with the price of food rising because of poor harvests. Soil waterlogged, too wet to get the spuds & other root veg out of the ground. Flooded fields of animal feed. The staple loaf of bread will not only rise in the baking but also in price. The global wheat harvest last year (look at all the processed foods) was one of the worst on record, and with more mouths to feed...

Maybe now we'll see a change in how we view ourselves, for it's going to get worse before it gets better. If governments had acted positively back in the late '70s early '80s, we would be well on the way to stabilising CO2 emissions. As it is, it's going to take about another 30-40years to get to the position we could have been in if action was taken earlier.

Our children's children, and theirs, will have to face what we've left them with. And all because of Global Inaction.

Now I'm no academic nor scientist, just a guy coming up to 65 years living & walking the Land, in all seasons & all weathers. I watched the Land  from an early age. My Gramp taught & showed me nature, and how to use my senses when in it. Those lessons have stood me in good stead. In the intervening years I've watched the Land turn through the seasons, and those seasons changing to the extent that flowers that bloom in March are blooming in January. And folks say, "Climate Change. What's that?" How blind are they?

I'm pissed off.

Looks like I'll be out all day tomorrow, at a major Charity Auction, where the 60 Swans of Wells will go under the hammer. Thankfully I won't be paying the £50 entrance fee for the Dinner, with the auction after. Should be home some time early Sunday morning. So from 9am tomorrow I'm gone

I want to put together a full photo-reportage of the whole event, from the dressing of the tables, in the kitchen following the Chef, the Dinner and finally, the Auction. As I say, I should get to bed at some point Sunday morning.

Sorry I haven't been around much, these past ten days. My Grandson, Ollie, has been staying with me, and it's been six years since I last saw him. It's been a learning curve for both of us, and we've had a jolly good time finding out about each other again. I know it's done me the world of good, having Ollie here with me, just hope he feels the same.

Have just received a call from him telling me he had arrived back in Brighton, and we're waiting for the next school holidays at Whitsun

Marie Colvin, the Sunday Times war correspondent, has been killed in Homs, Syria, it has been confirmed today (February 22, 2012). The French photo journalist Remi Ochlik was also killed in the same incident, according to the French government. A report from AFP has confirmed that Colvin has died but has not released the full details of the incident. However, BBC News suggests that their makeshift media centre in the Baba Amr was hit by shells and then rockets hit the gardens of the building, as its inhabitants tried to flee. Two other foreign journalists are said to have been injured in the attack.

Marie Colvin worked for the Sunday Times as a foreign correspondent for over twenty years. She wore a distinctive eye patch as a result of being hit by shrapnel in 2001, when she was reporting from Sri Lanka. The Sunday Times editor John Witherow has released a statement, saying "Marie was an extraordinary figure in the life of the Sunday Times, driven by a passion to cover wars in the belief that what she did mattered. She believed profoundly that reporting could curtail the excesses of brutal regimes and make the international community take notice."

The Sunday Times are said to be trying to recover Marie Colvin's body from Syria and also to ensure that the freelance photographer Paul Conroy - who was injured in the attack - reaches safety as soon as possible. The Red Cross has appealed to both the Syrian government and rebel forces for a daily ceasefire, to allow medical supplies to reach civilians. Neither party has shown signs of entering into this agreement. (Sunday Times)

Last night, on BBC TVs "Newsnight" Marie Colvin talked of the shelling they were enduring, how, in a make-shit clinic, she watched a baby die. "His little tummy heaving & heaving...'till he died."

The world has lost a Great Journalist, along with a fine Photojournalist in Remi Ochlik. Now the proof that there's indiscriminate shelling by the Syrian Government is there for All to See.  This has to STOP, and the regime to STAND DOWN.

So far, alll we've heard from the UN and its members is a load of Hot Air. Serious action MUST be taken. Please contact your National Governments, and Demand action.

I have just watched a wildlife documentary on BBC2. Catch it on iplayer [link] It focuses on the critically endangered Slow Loris & the illegal pet trade that has sprung up, and it's going to get worse because of YOUTUBE [link] This short clip has got stupid sick people wanting to buy one because they're 'so cute' The Loris belongs in the forests of South East Asia, not in cages where they die in a short space of time.
In much of their range they disappearing at an alarming rate that they could well become EXTINCT in the next decade.

I got nudged to it when reading Prof. Tim Flannery's "Here on Earth", another good read for you [link]
As I've always said, because of inaction by governments, we're leaving a right can of worms for our grandchildren. I won't be around when CC really takes hold, but Kaia & Olly'ed, my two grandchildren, will be. What will be their fate if our governments don't act decisively in the next couple of years?

On the evening of Wednesday 29th. February 2012, at Café Piano in Wells, I'm having a do to celebrate my 16th Birthday. It will be a Beatles Evening, with a little help from my friends.

I'm opening this to all my watchers, especially those of you in the UK. You're most welcome to come & join in. Those of you who would like to/can attend, please let me know asap at earth.hart@yahoo.co.uk so Steve & I can work out the costs & covers. This will be a Private function, so closer to the time I'll be sending invites by email, print it out & come along.

There will be two set menus, a meat one, Venison and a veggie one, along with sweets. Hart's and Hind's Breath, naturally, along with other drinks will be available from the bar. When I have a rough idea of the numbers, Steve will be able to give me a figure as to the cost of the meal, drinks extra, though there will be a glass of Hart's or Hind's Breath to welcome you, from me to you
